Unleashing Canada’s Economy by Removing Interprovincial Trade Barriers

Our government is leading the country in breaking down interprovincial trade barriers that cost the Canadian economy billions of dollars every year. As the first and only province to remove all of its party-specific exceptions under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, Ontario is creating new opportunities for businesses, workers, and consumers.

Through the Protect Ontario through Free Trade within Canada Act, Ontario is advancing mutual recognition measures that ensure goods and services approved in other provinces can be more easily recognized here at home. We have also introduced faster labour mobility measures, allowing certified professionals from other provinces and territories to begin working in Ontario sooner.

These actions, along with the Canada-wide Direct-to-Consumer Alcohol Sales Agreement, will help lower costs, open new markets, and strengthen Ontario’s economy. As we face ongoing global economic uncertainty, our government will continue to lead the way in building a stronger, more competitive, and more self-reliant Canadian economy.
