Our government is taking the next step in exploring the reopening of the Brantford Jail as part of a historic $3 billion investment to expand Ontario’s correctional capacity and keep communities safe. Reopening the facility could add up to 125 beds to the provincial correctional system, helping ensure there is capacity to keep violent and repeat offenders behind bars.
This initiative builds on our government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Ontario’s justice system and support frontline correctional staff. Since 2018, Ontario has hired more than 4,000 correctional officers and is adding more than 2,500 correctional beds across the province over the next decade.
By investing in correctional infrastructure and expanding capacity, our government is helping ensure Ontario’s justice system can keep pace with growing demands while protecting communities and holding offenders accountable.
