Our government has launched a framework for the Data Centre Playbook to help attract strategic investments that drive economic growth, create jobs, and ensure Canadians’ data remains in Canada. The framework will guide the development of data centres that deliver meaningful benefits to local communities while strengthening Ontario’s position as a leader in the digital economy.
The playbook is built on three key pillars: advancing economic development, protecting data security and digital sovereignty, and ensuring investments deliver tangible benefits for local communities. Ontario will only support projects that create jobs, attract investment, safeguard Canadians’ data, and contribute to long-term economic growth.
Importantly, data centres will be required to pay the full cost of their impact on the electricity system, ensuring residential electricity bills are not increased. Through the Data Centre Playbook, our government is building the digital infrastructure needed to support the economy of the future while creating jobs and protecting Ontario’s economic and technological interests.
