Our government is investing an additional $4.6 million to keep the McMaster Nuclear Reactor operating 24/7, bringing our total investment in the reactor to $26.9 million. This investment will help produce more life-saving medical isotopes used to treat cancer patients, while supporting more good-paying local jobs and advancing world-class research. As the largest facility of its kind in Canada, the reactor produces isotopes that enable approximately 84,000 treatments every year, helping bring innovative medical breakthroughs closer to patients.
This funding builds on our government’s commitment to research and innovation, with more than $2 billion invested in research since 2018. By strengthening the McMaster Nuclear Reactor’s capacity and supporting cutting-edge scientific discovery, we are saving lives, creating jobs, and further cementing Ontario’s position as a global leader in nuclear innovation and medical isotope production.
