HEART LAKE — All Canadians need reliable and affordable high-speed Internet, no matter where they live. The governments of Canada and Ontario are taking action to bring high-speed internet access to unserved and underserved communities across the province.
The government is announcing over $219 million in combined federal and provincial funding for Rogers to bring high-speed Internet access to more than 66,000 households in over 300 communities, including over 600 Indigenous households.
Heart Lake will be one of the communities to receive this improved high-speed internet access, promoting future residential development and commercial investment in the area. This includes new and existing developments located on Heart Lake Rd. between Sandalwood Parkway and Mayfield Rd.
“In this day and age, reliable and affordable high-speed internet is not only a necessity, but also a priority,” said Graham McGregor, the MPP for Brampton North. “Our government is focused on connecting every community in Brampton and across the province with high-speed internet to build a stronger Ontario for generations to come.”
“Heart Lake residents deserve access to affordable and high-speed internet services. Along with improved telecommunications for residents, the local economy will benefit from this joint investment, for both current and future developments in the community,” said Ruby Sahota, the MP for Brampton North.
The projects being announced today are part of an existing partnership between Ontario and Canada. On July 29, 2021, the two levels of government announced their partnership to support large-scale, fibre-based projects that will provide high-speed internet access to more than 280,000 households and businesses across the province. This historic agreement was made possible by a joint federal-provincial investment totaling more than $1.2 billion.
Today’s announcement brings Ontario closer to achieving its goal of making high-speed internet accessible in every community across the province by the end of 2025.
