Ontario is building a stronger energy future with the start of construction on the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment, a key part of the province’s plan to expand its world-leading nuclear sector and meet rising electricity demand.
As Ontario’s energy needs are expected to grow by up to 90 per cent, investments in nuclear power will help ensure families and businesses have access to reliable, affordable, and emissions-free electricity for decades to come. The province’s nuclear expansion is expected to create 150,000 jobs and generate significant economic growth across Ontario.
Once complete, the refurbished Pickering station will provide enough clean electricity to power approximately 2.2 million homes while supporting thousands of good-paying jobs and strengthening Ontario’s made-in-Canada nuclear supply chain. By investing in nuclear energy today, Ontario is helping secure a prosperous economic future and a reliable energy grid for the next generation.
